If you want an authentic Mexican experience and a complete vacation, visiting a ranch in Cabo San Lucas is a good start. You’ll find a holistic approach to what a vacation means and get to know the culture and traditions of Mexico. Nature has healing powers and ranchers will teach you everything there is to know about the Mexican landscape, their deep connection with nature, and the wonderful flavors of local food. Here’s how a day at the ranch looks like.

Grid your coffee for breakfast

Life at a ranch isn’t easy but it’s very rewarding. Enjoy the flavor of Mexican coffee and find out what it takes to have it in your cup at breakfast. You’ll learn everything about beans, grind your own coffee, and have the freshest cup of coffee in your life. Under the Mexican sun, coffee catches amazing flavors. It’s the perfect start for a long and active day.

Enjoy outdoors activities

In the quiet scenery of a ranch, you can start the day with your usual yoga practice. But instead of practicing in a dusty room, get outside and salute the sun. Feeling the grass with your bare feet will clear your mind and energize your body. And you need all the energy you can gather because other activities follow.

You can discover the Mexican landscape by horseback riding, hiking, biking, or kayaking. You can swim in canyons and try standup paddling for the first time. Locals know the best places. After all, life at a ranch is all about understanding nature and learning how to live outdoors.

Make tortillas for lunch

After all these activities you probably are hungry. Don’t worry; you’ll learn how to make tortillas quickly and enjoy them at lunchtime. Tortillas are made with cornflour, salt, water, and a lot of love and care. They’re the soul of Mexican cuisine and a true culinary experience. You’ll appreciate your food more once you find out how much sweat and heart is put into it.

Be creative and learn about Mexican crafts

Mexico has a long tradition of crafts. Handmade products require a lot of work, attention to detail, and creativity. You can learn to work with wood, leather, or textile. But more than that, you’ll learn to have patience, listen to your teacher, and follow instructions. Crafts are amazing hobbies. They train your attention, keep your mind agile, and are very rewarding.

Experience an outdoor dinner by the fire

Nothing compares to the Mexican way of singing and sharing stories by the fire. It’s a tradition with deep roots and stunning benefits. You get to know your hosts and create deep connections with your friends. Everything looks better in the firelight and all the problems and stress seem to go away. And Mexicans are experts in improvising a fiesta at any moment. What better ending for this beautiful day?

Life at a ranch is an incredible adventure but it’s also a good lesson. You’ll learn to embrace and appreciate nature, be grateful for all its gifts, put your soul in beautiful things, and care for those who sit on your table. It’s a unique and meaningful experience. Discover the true Mexican story and fill your heart with joy.

Rent a bike and explore the surroundings

Cabo San Lucas has 40 trails for biking and hiking. They’re designed for all skill levels and cover more than 40 km of sand, hills, rocks, and stunning views. All you need is a mountain bike and the courage to explore the sunny Mexican landscape. Don’t forget your camera because along the trails you’ll discover amazing landmarks and breathtaking panoramic views.

Try archery

Archery was once a way of getting food and fighting the enemy. Today, it’s an elegant sport that tests your vision and precision. Archery teaches you to control your body and mind, ignore the exterior, and focus only on the target. It can be a fun and meaningful lesson. Who says that holidays are just for oversleeping and sunbathing? From Cabo San Lucas you’ll return with the perfect tan but also wiser.

Emerge into the Mexican culture

It means knowing your hosts and understanding their lifestyle.

Play tennis

Even if Mexico isn’t famous in the world of tennis, you can find exquisite tennis fields in Cabo San Lucas and other Mexican locations. The weather is perfect all year round and the resorts provide facilities for professional players and lessons for beginners. Tennis is a great workout and, with a bit of luck, it can be a celebrity spotting activity too. Last year, guests at St. Regis Punta Mita Resort had the opportunity to play with Andre Agassi.

Experience a day cruise

You don’t have to be a millionaire to experience a boat ride on a private yacht. You just have to visit Cabo San Lucas and decide to see El Arco de Cabo San Lucas, a limestone arch rising from the blue ocean. Some say the rock formation looks like a dragon. The most adventurous choose kayaking and parasailing to visit the Arch. But you can choose the more relaxed option of a day cruise, which may include snorkeling, swimming, and paddleboarding.

Cabo San Lucas has so much to offer and it’s so willing to provide the best time of your life that it’s hard to resist it. With friendly people and outstanding food, ancient traditions and powerful culture, a deep connection with nature and breathtaking views, Cabo San Lucas should be on your bucket list. On January 4th, 2020, Montage Los Cabos hosted a charitable evening in the benefit of Fundacion Sarahuaro. Sarahuaro is an organization that supports women and children from Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. They provide healthy meals for children and education and support for their mothers.

“Sarahuaro signifies friendship and community. The saguaro cactus is an iconic feature of the Baja landscape, where the desert meets the sea. A cactus is able to support life and prosper in the midst of a challenging environment, much like the women who participate in Sarahuaro’s programs.” - sarahuaro.org

To raise funds for Sarahuaro, guests of the hotel and the general public were invited to buy tickets and reserve tables. They were offered an evening of entertainment, an exquisite dinner, a live auction, and a raffle. And to make sure everybody’s onboard, the theme of the party was “A Night in Wonderland”.

“You’re mad, bonkers, completely off your head. But I’ll tell you a secret. All the best people are.”- Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland.

Studio Em - A day in Wonderland 04.jpg

As the dress code encouraged themed costumes, rabbits and Alices, cats and playing cards came to the party. Willing to do at least six good deeds before breakfast, the guests donated and raised awareness for Sarahuaro’s cause.

It’s events like this that help the foundation continue its mission and change the lives of many women and children. You can get involved by donating money or equipment or enrolling as a volunteer. Even a simple visit counts.

A moment of peace and serenity

Yoga is a practice of peace. Empty your mind and forget about how you look, move, or think. Just breathe in and out, follow the moves of your instructor, and embrace the sun and nature. A sunrise yoga session is a spiritual experience that allows you to connect with yourself at a much deeper level. It’s about beginnings and life. Feel the warmth of the sun, admire the magnificent colors of the sunrise, and be grateful for this moment. Yoga keeps you in the present and the present is all we have.

Studio Em - sunrise yoga photo 02.jpg

Stretching in the sun

There’s a lot of stretching in yoga poses. This also benefits your body as stretching improves circulation and flexibility and prolongs life. Even if stretching may seem harmless, if you don’t do it right it can lead to injuries. So take time to warm up, let the instructor know if you have medical problems or are a beginner, and don’t overdo it. And leave breakfast for after the practice.

It isn’t easy to find a good place for practicing yoga at sunrise. But at Chileno Bay Resort you have all the conditions you need. You’re in a safe and welcoming place, with nature all around you and expert instructors. Give yourself this moment and everything will look better afterward. Namaste!

Sea Turtle Release in Punta de Mita, Mexico

Sea turtles have been happy in the oceans for more than 100 million years. But their happy life was brutally changed by humans and their lifestyle (hunting, navigation, dumping garbage in the oceans, pollution, etc.). Today, sea turtles species are endangered and vulnerable. This is where organizations like Red Tortuguera take action.

Studio Em - Punta Mita turtle release event 01.jpg
Red Tortuguera’s mission is to unite the efforts of conservationists, students, and communities in the region to increase the marine turtle populations. The network is made up of turtle conservation camps from the coasts of Nayarit and Jalisco.

Besides their research and protection activities, Red Tortuguera raises awareness through educational programs that involve local communities. People need to understand the importance of healthy ecosystems and learn about turtles’ habitat and behavior and how to protect them.

Studio Em - Punta Mita turtle release event 02.jpg

Sea turtle release is a program supported by resorts in Punta de Mita, Mexico, which aims to increase the number of turtles in the Pacific Ocean. Each year, luxury resorts like St. Regis Punta Mita Resort gather their employees and guests in an attempt to give something back to the environment.

Studio Em - Punta Mita turtle release event 05.jpg

The event includes a lecture held by a marine biologist who explains everything there’s to know about sea turtle’s lifestyle and the things that put them in danger. From natural predators to plastic waste and pollution, sea turtles have a rough life.

Sea turtle release in Punta de Mita is completed on the beach, at sunset, when dozens of little sea turtles are released into the ocean. What better way to spend your holiday than knowing you helped a little creature get home safe?

Studio Em - Punta Mita turtle release event 04.jpg

So if you enjoy swimming with turtles in the ocean and having a clean environment, pay attention to your own lifestyle: how much plastic do you use and how much do you recycle; where you dispose your garbage; how much energy you waste and how much you contribute to general pollution; how you treat wildlife and how you can harm it, consciously or not.

The history of Wirikuta

Wirikuta is a sacred site and pilgrimage place in the mountains of Central Mexico. Huichol Indians do a sacred journey every year, covering over 250 miles and collecting peyote (a kind of cactus) along the way. They believe this ritual allows them to speak with their ancestors and gods. It’s a ritual that brings together families and communities, enhancing cultural values and helping people find strength and meaning. Wirikuta is a Natural Sacred Area protected by UNESCO.

Tradition and magic in the Wirikuta dance

Wirikuta dance is the ancestral dance of the Huichol people. Dancers paint their faces and wear colorful costumes. They look like fairytale characters and move like spirits. In their choreography, you’ll find acrobatic moves, full of grace and energy. Wirikuta dancers are much more than performing artists. They represent spirituality, traditions, and beliefs. They tell stories from ancient times and transport them into our times with dedication and passion.

Discover the Mexican Flavor of Los Cabos

Name it Land’s End, the tip of the southern Baja California Península, or Los Cabos the place is full of traditions, music, and culinary delights. This package of beautiful landscape, diverse ecosystem, celebrities, and famous vacation destination comes with an authentic Mexican flavor.

Los Cabos has a lot to offer to any tourist eager to discover a land of contradictions, fun, and traditions. From breathtaking beaches to the busiest destination for private aviation, from serene deserts and mountains to the place with the most chances to spot George Clooney, Los Cabos has all you desire.

But all this package of beautiful landscape, diverse ecosystem, celebrities, and famous vacation destination comes with an authentic Mexican flavor. Name it Land’s End, the tip of the southern Baja California Península, or Los Cabos the place is full of traditions, music, and culinary delights.

Mexican cuisine is at home in Los Cabos

Mexican cuisine is famous all around the world but here you can find its most authentic flavors. Local ingredients such as corn, potatoes, beans, avocados, tomatoes, agave, cacao, cactus, and chili pepper are the stars of this exquisite show of aromas and colors.

From homemade slow-cooked meals to street food, Mexican cuisine is diverse, rich, and spicy. Don’t miss the famous tacos, quesadillas, and tamales but also the least known barbacoa carnitas and chiles en nogada. Watch out for sauces and salsas as jalapeño pepper is often one of the ingredients. If you want something to put out the fire, try champurrado (a chocolate-based drink) and not the tasty Mexican wine. Leave the wine for romantic evenings and special events.

Embrace the Mexican tradition of music, dance, and crafts

Mexican music is passionate, dramatic, and melancholic. The songs are about love, freedom, country, or legends. We all heard about Mariachi music, usually played at weddings and parties. But you should also discover the Ranchera music, closer to traditional folklore, and the Norteño music, with its accordion and bajo sexto.

In terms of dance, Mexico is a colorful and rich destination. From the Danza de los Viejitos (Dance of the Little Old Men) to traditional dances performed at specific holidays, Mexican dances display exquisite costumes and masks. Similar to music, every dance has a story and a deep meaning.

Mexico is also renowned for its amazing handmade products including ceramics, textiles, masks, and dolls. Emerge into a complex fantasy of fairies, stories, legends, heroes, spirits, and more.

Let’s start the fiesta!

The list of traditional Mexican flavors wouldn’t be complete without a fiesta. A fiesta is a holiday or a festival that includes a party. Decorated streets and houses, traditional music and food, and many joyful people ready to celebrate are the main ingredients of a fiesta. Los Cabos has its own festivals and events that end with memorable parties. And if you’ve never enjoyed a piñata, here is the place to try this new experience.

Studio Em - Mexican flavor pinata photo.jpg

Los Cabos didn’t forget the Mexican flavors that made it a popular destination. Traditional food is present almost in any restaurant, traditional music is the local entertainment, and reasons for a fiesta are found really quickly. Discover a unique atmosphere and have an authentic cultural experience in Los Cabos, Mexico.
